Just an ’80s blast from the past this evening.
This is one of those weird songs you may have been listening to for decades, but still don’t understand what the words are or what he is singing, which then makes you think – what’s the song all about? I can’t say I was the biggest Communards fan back in the day, but I did like this tune; the piano blasting away is amazing. Who would have known Mr Coles would end up, along with his piano as Rev Coles and TV personality. Funny how the Universe works.
I was tempted to Google the background to this song, the lyrics, and what it was about, but I decided I like the way it is now. I don’t want to delve into the details in case it spoils my view of the song. Obviously, I know about the sexuality and background of the band members, and this never bothered me at all, but woe betide anyone finding out you liked the Communards where I lived and went to school, it would be the end of you.
What this does mean to me is leaving school, having my first real girlfriend, dating, listening to music, babysitting with her on a Friday night, chippie tea on the way home and feeling amazing and loving life.
